Ferry Beach
Ferry beach has been the home of the messing about in boats brigade for as long as I can remember. The area pictured has always been used for building and repair of working and fishing boats but just a bit further up the beach the dreaded yellow wellie brigade are starting to take over with their plastic pleasure craft. I love the huts on stilts which as well as being used as workshops are the working mans hideaway for a cup of tea and a gossip.

Bag Lady

Barrow seems to have acquired its very own local bag lady. No one seems to know too much about this particular lady, but it seems she is homeless by choice, rather than force of circumstances.
I wonder what her story is. She certainly can't be looking for solitude; she is camped outside the town hall, Barrow's most prominent building and right next to a busy main road.

Bent Trees
More damage from the weekend storm which hit Barrow. These trees have only been recently planted on the much hated new by-pass road.

New Emlyn Hughes Statue

The new Emlyn Hughes statue which was unveiled on Friday the 18th April. The defender, who became a television personality after retirement, died in 2004 from brain cancer, aged 57. A Barrow lad born and bred, eerily the poster which happened to be in the background seems to confirm that he loved Barrow. It is sited at a new office development on Abbey Road, which has been named Emlyn Hughes House.
The former television Question of Sport captain, who was awarded an OBE in 1980, played 650 games for Liverpool, won 62 England caps and captained his country 23 times.
