Bathtime in Marrakesh

Lock for luck.

This door in Marrakesh is a place where hopeful suitors looking for a partner say a prayer and attach a lock to the grill. The bigger the lock the richer the bride or groom, or so they say.

Agidir

Pink Flamingos on the nature reserve.

An old lady sets out her wares in the middle of the crowded sook.

Part of the busy local Atlantic fishing fleet.

One of the local ancient taxi fleet.

The modern face of Agidir,it's brand new marina village. Not too many luxury yachts tied up there yet, but give it time.

Hidden Urban Pond

This pond is hidden from view in between the football ground and the local Asda supermarket.
It looks entirely natural, but it was once part of an extensive cooling system for the long gone steelworks.
Even though some use it as a rubbish dump, when you look closer you can see how nature has reclaimed it.

Ferry Beach

Ferry beach has been the home of the messing about in boats brigade for as long as I can remember. The area pictured has always been used for building and repair of working and fishing boats but just a bit further up the beach the dreaded yellow wellie brigade are starting to take over with their plastic pleasure craft. I love the huts on stilts which as well as being used as workshops are the working mans hideaway for a cup of tea and a gossip.

End of the Road

Looks like it's the end of the road for this particular racing banger. But don't think that it's worthless, the remnants of this car are still worth£140 or so as scrap metal.

Bag Lady

Barrow seems to have acquired its very own local bag lady. No one seems to know too much about this particular lady, but it seems she is homeless by choice, rather than force of circumstances.
I wonder what her story is. She certainly can't be looking for solitude; she is camped outside the town hall, Barrow's most prominent building and right next to a busy main road.

Bent Trees

More damage from the weekend storm which hit Barrow. These trees have only been recently planted on the much hated new by-pass road.

Summer Storm

This Sunday winds hit over 60mph and we had to contend with roads full of flotsam and jetsam blowing all over the place, including the odd tree, like the one in Barrow’s Hartington Street which toppled up against some poor soul’s house. Luckily not too much damage seemed to be inflicted to the house, but I bet they got a heck of a shock. The road was later closed and the tree carefully cut up and removed.
